Mary Clay Edinger
I am a marriage and family therapy associate with a creative, collaborative, compassionate approach to therapy. I journey with clients and families of all ages as they navigate anxiety, perfectionism, eating disorders, depression, addiction, trauma, grief/loss, cancer, parenting issues, child behavioral issues, autism, and life transitions. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, client-centered, and trauma-informed.
With me, the therapy room is a place for exploration. I use art, writing, storytelling, play, and Internal Family Systems to help make the abstract more concrete and progress more possible.
My Story
My experiences as a childhood cancer survivor, student-athlete, teacher, mother, and person of faith greatly inform who I am as a therapist.
As a childhood cancer survivor, I have a unique perspective for families navigating a frightening diagnosis, as well as those who have experienced or anticipate the loss of a parent or a child. As a former college athlete with over a decade of teaching experience, I understand first-hand the pressures put on young people to achieve in academics and extra-curriculars. As a teacher, I learned to create a space where children (and occasionally their parents!) felt valued, respected, and safe. As a mother of three young children, I empathize with parents as they navigate the twists and turns of raising children and the delicate balance that life becomes while parenting. As a person of faith, I welcome spirituality in the therapy room if it is helpful to the client. I believe we are worthy of love, that some things cannot be explained, and that healing is possible for all people.
Whatever your struggles, you and your family deserve to have someone who listens and supports you on the road to hope and healing. The first step on this journey is reaching out. I look forward to hearing your story.
